Bryan Mbeumo was born on 7 August 1999 in Avallon, France. He has a French mother and a Cameroonian father, and grew up playing football in his hometown. He spent his early years at local side CO Avallonais before joining the Troyes academy at age 14. Mbeumo was part of the Troyes U19 team that won the 2018 Coupe Gambardella (the French youth cup), even scoring twice in the final. He made his senior debut for Troyes in 2018 and became a first-team regular in 2018–19, finishing that season with 11 goals in 40 appearances.
