Early life

Joshua Samuel Fatu was born on August 22, 1985 in San Francisco, California, nine minutes after his twin brother Jonathan (Jimmy Uso). He is the son of professional wrestler Solofa “Rikishi” Fatu Jr. and his wife Talisua. The family is of Samoan descent, part of the famous Anoaʻi wrestling clan. Jey grew up in Florida; he and his brother attended Escambia High School in Pensacola, where both were competitive football players. After high school, Jey continued playing football as a linebacker at the University of West Alabama from 2003 to 2005. When his football career did not advance as hoped, he decided to follow his family’s footsteps into professional wrestling.

Wrestling Career

Jey Uso launched his wrestling career alongside his twin brother Jimmy. Trained from childhood by their father Rikishi, the brothers first appeared on the independent circuit in the late 2000s. By 2010 they had joined WWE’s developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), performing as “Jules Uso” and “Jamal Uso.” In FCW they captured the Florida Tag Team Championship. Later in 2010, the twins debuted on WWE’s main roster as The Usos. Over the next decade The Usos became one of WWE’s most celebrated tag teams. They won a combined eight WWE tag team titles (three on Raw and five on SmackDown). Their fifth SmackDown Tag Team Championship reign set a record of 622 days, the longest tag title run in WWE history. The Usos also earned Slammy Awards as “Tag Team of the Year” in 2014 and 2015. Notably, they were the first team ever to hold both the Raw and SmackDown tag titles simultaneously (as the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions).

In recent years Jey Uso has also found success as a singles competitor. In late 2020 he engaged in a highly publicized feud with his cousin Roman Reigns over the WWE Universal Championship, a rivalry that earned Jey “Feud of the Year” honors. In 2021, Jey won the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania. He later teamed with Cody Rhodes to win more tag gold, showing his versatility as both a team and solo wrestler. In 2024 Uso captured the WWE Intercontinental Championship the first singles title of his career. The following year, at the 2025 Royal Rumble, Jey won the Men’s Royal Rumble match. This victory set up his biggest career moment, at WrestleMania 41 he defeated Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship, marking his first world title in WWE.
